HowDoI India publishes guides and calculators covering Indian taxes, government processes, financial products, and civic paperwork. Much of this content falls under what Google and the broader information industry call YMYL (Your Money, Your Life) topics, meaning inaccurate information can have real financial or legal consequences for readers.

We take that responsibility seriously. This page explains how we create, verify, and maintain the content on this site.

1. Research and Primary Sources

Every guide starts with official government sources. We reference circulars, gazette notifications, and the actual portal interfaces of the relevant agency. Our primary sources include:

  • Income Tax Department (incometax.gov.in) and CBDT circulars for tax-related content
  • UIDAI (uidai.gov.in) and MyAadhaar for Aadhaar-related guides
  • EPFO (epfindia.gov.in) for PF, UAN, and retirement content
  • GST Portal (gst.gov.in) and GSTN advisories for GST guides
  • Passport Seva (passportindia.gov.in) for passport processes
  • Parivahan (parivahan.gov.in) for vehicle and transport services
  • Reserve Bank of India (rbi.org.in) for banking and financial regulation references
  • State government portals (Bhoomi, Mahabhulekh, BBMP, BMC, MCD) for property and land records

We do not copy content from third-party blogs, news articles, or other how-to websites. All our instructions are written from first-hand interaction with the official portals and processes.

2. Writing and Verification Process

Our content creation follows a three-step process:

  1. Walk-through: A team member personally completes the process on the actual portal or at the relevant office. They note every screen, button label, form field, fee, and potential error message.
  2. Drafting: The guide is written in plain, jargon-free language. We use numbered steps, document checklists, fee tables, and callout boxes to make the information scannable and actionable.
  3. Peer review: A second team member reviews the guide for accuracy, completeness, and clarity. For tax and finance content, we cross-check figures against the latest CBDT circulars, Finance Act provisions, or RBI notifications.

3. Calculators and Tools

Our interactive calculators (Income Tax, EMI, SIP, PF, and others) are built using publicly available formulas and the latest government-notified rates. All calculations run entirely on your device (client-side JavaScript); we do not store or transmit your financial inputs. Calculator logic is tested against known reference outputs before publishing.

When tax slabs or interest rates change, we update the calculators to reflect the latest notified figures. Each calculator page notes the assessment year or rate vintage it uses.

4. Updates and Freshness

Government portals change frequently. UI layouts are redesigned, fee structures are revised, and new rules are introduced. We monitor these changes and update affected guides as soon as reasonably possible.

Every guide displays a Last updated date and, where applicable, a Reviewed date showing when a team member last verified the steps against the live portal. If you notice that a guide is outdated, please let us know.

5. What We Are Not

HowDoI India is an educational information resource. We are not licensed financial advisors, chartered accountants, tax consultants, or legal professionals. Our guides explain how government portals and financial processes work; they do not constitute professional advice.

For situations that involve significant money, legal disputes, unusual tax cases, or time-sensitive government notices, we always recommend consulting a qualified professional such as a Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), or advocate.

6. Affiliate Relationships and Advertising

Some pages on this site include affiliate links to third-party services (for example, tax filing platforms) or display advertising through Adsterra. These relationships do not influence our editorial content. We only recommend services that we believe provide genuine value. Affiliate links are always clearly labelled, and advertising is marked as such.

Revenue from ads and affiliates supports the ongoing maintenance and expansion of our free guides and calculators.

7. Corrections and Feedback

If you find an error, outdated step, or missing information in any guide, please contact us at [email protected] or use the feedback button on the article page. We investigate all reports and publish corrections promptly.
