GST Calculator
Split invoice amounts into taxable value, GST, and total for common slab rates.
GST on invoices in India
Goods and Services Tax applies to most supplies of goods and services in India. This calculator splits an amount into taxable value, GST, and invoice total for common slab rates with intra-state or inter-state treatment.
How to use this calculator
Choose whether your amount is exclusive of GST (add tax on top) or inclusive of GST (back out the base from the total on the invoice). Retail MRP-style prices are usually inclusive; B2B quotes on email often show tax separately.
Pick the GST rate slab: 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28% for many goods and services. Some items are zero-rated or exempt; use 0% if applicable. Compensation cess on sin goods sits on top of 28% and is not broken out here.
Select intra-state for CGST plus SGST (half each) within the same state. Select inter-state for IGST when supplier and recipient are in different states. E-commerce operators may collect TCS under separate rules; this tool only splits standard GST on the taxable value.
Use this when checking vendor bills, quoting clients, or reconciling GST returns. It does not file GSTR-1 or validate HSN codes. Registered businesses should match invoice line items to their GSTR-2B before claiming input tax credit.
For mixed supplies or composite supplies, the applicable rate follows specific GST law rules. When in doubt on which slab applies, confirm HSN or SAC with your CA before invoicing.
GST split formulas
Exclusive: GST = base × rate / 100, total = base + GST Inclusive: base = total / (1 + rate/100), GST = total − base Intra-state: CGST = SGST = GST / 2 Inter-state: IGST = full GST Example: ₹1,18,000 inclusive at 18%. Base ≈ ₹1,00,000, GST ≈ ₹18,000. Intra-state: CGST ₹9,000 + SGST ₹9,000. Round-off on real invoices may differ by a rupee from this estimate.
Frequently Asked Questions
CGST vs IGST?
CGST and SGST apply on supplies within one state. IGST applies on inter-state supplies and is later split between states via settlement.
Common GST rates?
5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% cover most items. Essentials may be exempt; sin and luxury goods attract compensation cess on top.
Inclusive vs exclusive pricing?
B2C retail prices often include GST. B2B quotes may show tax separately. Always confirm which number you are starting from.
Input tax credit?
Registered businesses can usually claim ITC on GST paid on business purchases. This calculator only splits amounts, not ITC eligibility.
Reverse charge?
In reverse charge cases the recipient pays GST, not the supplier. Different rules apply; this tool models standard forward charge invoices.
GST on exports?
Exports are generally zero-rated. Domestic GST calculators do not apply to export invoices treated as zero-rated supplies.
Round-off on invoices?
Invoices may round total to the nearest rupee. Small differences from this calculator are normal on real bills.
Composition scheme?
Small taxpayers under composition pay tax at fixed turnover rates and generally cannot charge GST on invoices the same way. This tool is for normal registered suppliers.
