Terms of Service

Last Updated: August 30, 2026

Please read these Terms of Service (Terms) carefully before using the HowDoI India website at howdoiindia.com and any related pages, tools, or content (together, the Service) operated by HowDoI India (us, we, or our).

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Who we are

HowDoI India publishes step-by-step guides and free interactive calculators to help people in India understand common civic, tax, and money tasks. We are an informational publisher. We are not a government agency, bank, broker, CA firm, law firm, or registered investment adviser.

2. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms form a binding agreement between you and HowDoI India when you browse guides, run calculators, submit the contact form, click affiliate or outbound links, or otherwise use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to accept these Terms for that organisation.

3. Description of the Service

The Service may include:

  • Written guides on Indian government processes, taxes, identity, property, transport, and related topics
  • Free calculators for loans, tax estimates, investments, deposits, salary, foreign asset reporting, and similar tools
  • Seasonal hubs (for example Tax Season), category pages, and state-focused guide listings
  • Contact forms, cookie consent tools, analytics (after consent), and advertising
  • Links to official portals and, where disclosed, affiliate partners via paths such as /go/...

Features may change, move, or be removed without notice. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.

4. Educational and informational use only

All guides, articles, examples, FAQs, tables, and calculator outputs are for general informational and educational purposes only. Much of this material concerns money, tax, and legal processes (often called YMYL topics). Mistakes in those areas can have real consequences.

We are not financial advisors, tax professionals, lawyers, or government officers. Nothing on the Service is professional financial, tax, accounting, investment, or legal advice, and nothing creates a client, advisory, or fiduciary relationship with you.

Before you file a return, pay tax, sign a loan, invest, remit money abroad, or rely on any figure from this site, consult a qualified professional and verify rules on the relevant official portal or statute. Official sources and your facts control, not our summaries.

How we research and update content is described in our Editorial Policy.

5. Calculators

Calculators produce estimates based on the inputs you enter and simplified models of common Indian rules (for example tax slabs, EMI formulas, or capital gains rates). They may omit surcharge bands, rebates, set-offs, DTAA relief, lender-specific charges, rounding used by a bank or payroll system, or mid-year law changes.

By using calculators you agree that:

  • Results are approximate and may differ from Form 16, AIS, bank schedules, broker statements, or an officer's assessment
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of inputs you type or share via URL parameters
  • Calculations generally run in your browser. We do not treat calculator inputs as stored personal financial records on our servers (see the Privacy Policy for contact-form and analytics exceptions)
  • You will not rely solely on a calculator output to make a binding financial or legal decision

6. Accuracy and no warranty

We work to keep guides and tools aligned with current Indian rules and portal workflows, and we update reviewed dates when we re-check material. Still, government sites, tax rates, fees, and processes change without warning.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, secure, or continuously available.

7. Your responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Use the Service only for lawful purposes and in line with these Terms
  • Not attempt to disrupt, scrape abusively, reverse engineer in a way that harms the Service, overload servers, or bypass security or rate limits
  • Not submit malware, spam, or unlawful content through the contact form or any input field

We may suspend or block access if we reasonably believe you are misusing the Service.

8. Intellectual property

You may not copy, republish, sell, or systematically reproduce our content for commercial use without prior written permission, except for short quotations with clear attribution and a link back to the original page, where fair dealing or similar exceptions under applicable law allow it.

9. Advertising, affiliates, and outbound links

The Service may display advertisements (via Adsterra) after you accept cookies where consent is required. Ad content is provided by third parties. We do not control every ad creative and are not responsible for products or claims in third-party ads.

Some links use paths such as /go/...and may be affiliate links. If you buy through an affiliate link, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not change our obligation to describe processes honestly, but they are commercial relationships. Always read the partner's own terms before you buy or share data with them.

Guides often link to official portals (for example Income Tax e-Filing, UIDAI, EPFO, GST). Those sites are not operated by us. Your use of third-party sites is governed by their terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their availability, accuracy, or security.

10. Privacy

How we handle personal data, cookies, analytics, and ads is explained in our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you acknowledge that policy. Where consent is required for non-essential cookies, you can Accept or Decline through the site banner.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, HowDoI India and its directors, authors, contractors, partners, agents, suppliers, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising from:

  • Unauthorised access to or alteration of your transmissions or data (to the extent not caused by our wilful misconduct where liability cannot be excluded)

Where liability cannot be excluded under Indian consumer or other mandatory law, our total liability for claims relating to the Service will be limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim (if any) or (b) one thousand Indian rupees (₹1,000). The Service is currently offered free of charge for browsing and calculator use.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless HowDoI India and its team from claims, losses, and reasonable costs (including legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right, except to the extent caused by our wilful misconduct.

13. Eligibility and age

The Service is directed at users in India and others seeking information about Indian processes. If you are under 18, use the Service only with a parent or guardian's involvement for any money or legal decisions. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through the contact form for marketing.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India shall have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms or the Service, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that cannot be waived.

Before filing a formal dispute, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue informally.

15. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. The Last Updated date at the top will change when we post a revision. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service.

16. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.

17. Entire agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any notices posted on specific tools (for example calculator disclaimers), are the entire agreement between you and HowDoI India regarding the Service and replace prior informal understandings on the same subject.
