Personal Loan EMI Calculator
Calculate your monthly EMI and total interest payable for a personal loan.
Personal Loan EMI Estimator
Personal loans are unsecured, so lenders price them higher than home or car loans. Rates depend heavily on CIBIL score, income stability, and employer category. Use this tool to see EMI, total interest, and whether shorter tenure saves enough to justify higher monthly outflow.
How to use this calculator
Enter the amount that lands in your bank account after processing fee deduction. Many lenders charge 1% to 3% plus GST upfront, which raises effective cost even when the EMI looks fine.
Use the rate from your sanction letter, not a generic 12%. Personal loan APR in India often spans 10.5% to 24%. A 6% gap on a 5-year loan changes total interest by lakhs.
Keep tenure as short as cash flow allows. Personal loans suit 12 to 36 months for weddings, medical bills, or debt consolidation. Stretching to 60 months on a 20% rate doubles interest burden.
Before applying, run our EMI affordability calculator and compare with gold loan or loan against FD if you hold collateral. Those products are usually cheaper than unsecured credit.
Digital lenders may show a low starting rate in ads but approve a higher rate after bureau pull. Use the final sanction APR in this tool, not the marketing range from the app store listing.
Personal loan EMI formula
EMI = [P × R × (1+R)^N] / [(1+R)^N − 1] P = loan amount R = monthly rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) N = months Example: ₹5 lakh at 14% for 3 years (36 months). EMI ≈ ₹17,100. Total interest ≈ ₹1.16 lakh on top of principal. Same loan at 18% pushes EMI to about ₹18,050 and interest to roughly ₹1.5 lakh. Rate negotiation matters on unsecured products.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does applying hurt my CIBIL score?
Each application triggers a hard inquiry. Multiple inquiries in a short window signal credit hunger and can temporarily lower your score.
Is prepayment allowed?
Yes, but RBI lets lenders charge foreclosure fees of 2% to 5% on personal loans unlike most floating home loans.
Typical personal loan tenure?
Usually 1 to 5 years. Shorter tenure cuts interest sharply on high-rate loans even if EMI rises.
Top-up vs fresh personal loan?
Top-ups from your existing lender may skip fresh processing and offer slightly lower rates because repayment history is known. Compare APR including fees.
Personal loan vs credit card EMI?
Credit card EMI conversions often carry 15% to 24% effective rates with convenience fees. Personal loans from banks can be cheaper if your score is strong.
Can self-employed get personal loans?
Yes, with ITR for two to three years and bank statements. Rates may be 1% to 3% higher than salaried profiles at the same income level.
What documents are needed?
KYC, salary slips or ITR, bank statements, and employer details. Digital lenders may approve in minutes but check the final APR in the agreement.
Balance transfer personal loan?
Some lenders offer balance transfer at a lower rate if your score improved since the original loan. Factor processing fee before switching.
