Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (MSEDCL / Mahavitaran) lets most low-tension consumers view and pay the latest bill online with a 12-digit consumer number. You can use the official Web Self Service (WSS) portal, the Mahavitaran app, a bill SMS link, UPI QR on the bill, or a BBPS-enabled bank app.

This walkthrough focuses on the official portal path, then covers backups when OTP or payment gateways fail.

What you need

  1. Latest energy bill or SMS with the 12-digit consumer number
  2. Mobile number registered against that consumer (for OTP)
  3. UPI app, net banking, or card for payment
  4. A quiet 10 minutes so you can save the receipt before closing the tab

NOTE

View/Pay without login is aimed at LT / LTIP consumers. High-tension and some special accounts may need login or offline collection channels listed on the bill.

Step 1: Open the official View/Pay page

  1. Go to MSEDCL Web Self Service: wss.mahadiscom.in.
  2. Choose View/Pay Bill (English UI action for view/pay).
  3. Prefer mahadiscom.in / wss.mahadiscom.in domains. Skip search-ad clones.

Direct view/pay entry: View/Pay Bill.

Company site and FAQs: mahadiscom.in.

Step 2: Enter consumer number and OTP

  1. Type the 12-digit consumer number from the top of the bill.
  2. Request OTP if the portal asks. OTP usually goes to the registered mobile and sometimes email.
  3. Enter OTP and open the bill view.
  4. Check name, billing unit, due date, and payable amount before you continue.

If the number is rejected, you may be using a temporary number, a wrong billing unit context, or an HT account that cannot use the quick path.

Step 3: Pay and download the receipt

  1. Choose Pay / Pay now for the energy bill (or security deposit if that is the open demand).
  2. Complete UPI, card, or net banking on the payment page.
  3. Wait for the success screen. Download or screenshot the e-receipt.
  4. Confirm the consumer number and amount on the receipt match what you intended.

TIP

Keep the receipt PDF in a folder named by month. Dispute desks ask for payment reference first, not screenshots of the UPI chat alone.

  1. Mahavitaran app: Install from official store listings linked on mahadiscom.in, add the consumer number, then pay from dues.
  2. SMS link: Bill SMS often includes a pay link. Open it only if the sender looks like MSEDCL's usual pattern; still verify the amount on the official page if anything looks odd.
  3. UPI QR on the bill: Scan with your UPI app for the printed amount. Confirm the payee name before approve.
  4. Registered WSS login: Use this when you want history, multiple consumers, or service requests after payment.

Step 5: Pay via BBPS if the portal is down

  1. Open your bank or UPI app → Bill payment / Bharat Connect.
  2. Category Electricity → biller MSEDCL / Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (exact label varies by app).
  3. Enter the same 12-digit consumer number and fetch.
  4. Pay only if the fetched amount matches your expectation.

After payment checks

  1. Refresh View/Pay after 15-30 minutes. Status should move off "due" for that bill cycle.
  2. If due remains tomorrow and you have a success receipt, do not panic-pay again. Call 1912 / toll-free numbers printed on the bill with consumer number and receipt ID.
  3. Online payment complaints can also be raised via the Mahavitaran app or the service-request links on WSS.

Common problems

  • OTP to an old phone: Update the registered mobile at a customer care centre with ID proof before month-end rush.
  • Payment success, bill still open next morning: Give it a working day, then escalate with both bank UTR and MSEDCL receipt.
  • Wrong consumer paid: Contact customer care immediately with both numbers. Reversals are case-by-case.
  • Pop-up blockers: Payment pages and PDF bills often need pop-ups allowed for wss.mahadiscom.in.
  • Partial pay: Follow on-screen rules. Some cycles expect full clearance before reconnect or before the next bill posts cleanly.

Self reading and bill timing

MSEDCL may invite self meter reading on a short window before the scheduled reading date via app or WSS. That is separate from payment. Paying does not replace a reading dispute. If units look wrong, raise a reading or billing complaint before or after pay as the portal allows, and keep photos of the meter dial.

Mumbai and other discoms

This guide is for MSEDCL / Mahavitaran supply areas across much of Maharashtra. Parts of Mumbai use other distribution companies (for example Adani Electricity or BEST depending on locality). Match the logo and consumer number format on your bill before you follow MSEDCL links.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find the MSEDCL consumer number?
It is the 12-digit consumer number printed on the top left of a typical Mahavitaran energy bill. Enter it without spaces on the View/Pay Bill page.
Can I pay without registering on WSS?
Yes for many LT consumers. Use View/Pay Bill without login, complete OTP if asked, then pay. Registration helps if you manage multiple consumer numbers.
Is Mahavitaran the same as MSEDCL?
Yes. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (MSEDCL) brands consumer services as Mahavitaran.
What if OTP never arrives?
Confirm the mobile number registered with MSEDCL. Update it at a customer care centre or through available app options before retrying online pay.
